Last month we performed at a Bar Mitzvah at the very cool Glen Cove Mansion in NY. We were told the theme would be Vintage Steam Punk, and the Bar Mitzvah boy wanted to add our magic to his party! Our task was to incorporate our customized magic to fit this event’s theme and keep all the guests entertained during the evening.
From the start of the cocktail hour, I walked around the party performing my strolling close-up magic and mentalism for both the kids and adults. This was a great way to keep guests entertained as they all were trickling in, and it breaks the ice while facilitating introductions for guests that don’t know each other and are just meeting. I always make sure to use cool and unique magic that the 12-13 year old boys and girls haven’t seen before at other parties, and that will make them tell all their friends, “how cool is this magician, did you see what he did?!”
What’s more, my lovely assistant Lizzy dressed up as a Vintage Burlesque Cigarette Girl and walked around the party serving candy to the kids and drinks to the adults. Guests of all ages took pictures with Lizzy, and the client was thrilled with this addition to the party!!!
Later during the party, while the guests were finishing up their main course, Lizzy and I performed a BIG 15 minute grand-illusion act on the dance floor! All the kids made their way to the front of the dance floor and the adults directed their attention there, too. The act integrated some of the large custom illusions from our full illusion show and combined it with music and lots of audience participation. It was high energy and jam packed with magic! The show was definitely something unique that guests never saw before at a Bar/Bat Mitzvah and it provided entertainment while the guests were still seated finishing their meal before they started dancing again.
It was a fun and exciting theme to work with, and the guests had a truly magical evening!
